Pepper caught up with Melissa over at Tailwind, which is a Pinterest & Instagram Scheduler, Analytics & Marketing Tool. Not only did she provide us with some gangster content, which is posted below, but Tailwind is also offering Pepper an exclusive coupon code for the month of June!! This code will give our current creatives (or those signing on as we speak) $30 off their Tailwind subscription. That either works out to two months entirely free or knocks down the annual subscription from $120 to $90. Say what?!!!
There are so many reasons why creative entrepreneurs and photographers should have a scheduler like Tailwind, but Melissa definitely hits the nail on the head with her answers. So without further ado:
Can you tell us why using a scheduler for Pinterest is a huge benefit to a business?
Pinterest loves consistency and fresh content, but who has time to be adding new Pins all day? An approved scheduling tool, like Tailwind, will help you keep Pinterest happy by consistently adding high-quality content and creating real value for Pinners. Plus, it’s a great way to timebox your efforts so you’re not on your phone or computer around the clock Pinning! For example, you can set aside an hour or so to schedule out your Pins for the month then come back and evaluate what’s working in your analytics. Or, you can schedule Pins ahead of time and go on vacation!
Can you tell me the coolest thing about working at Tailwind?
The people! We have a very open, inclusive team and everyone is invested in each other’s growth – inside and outside of work. We have annual “awards” where we just get to brag about each other, we give each other gifts for accomplishing big things (I just got a spa day from the team for completing my MBA!), and we’ve even gone on vacation together. I believe strongly in our mission to make world-class marketing easy for everyone, but at the end of the day, my coworkers are what make Tailwind truly remarkable.
What is your best tip for creating killer evergreen content?
For something to be truly evergreen, you need to avoid talking about dates or certain time-based milestones (for example, mentioning upcoming elections or the Olympics). It’s also important to make sure evergreen content you create packs a big enough informational punch to be relevant and shareable either two days or two years after it’s published. I would also recommend creating a few different images for your evergreen posts, especially on Pinterest. Update those image and change up the description to give those older posts new life on Pinterest!
How can hashtags help drive traffic to your post and your site?
Hashtags on Pinterest work similarly to hashtags on any other platform. They are basically a label for your Pins to help Pinners find similarly labeled Pins. While the Smart Feed on Pinterest displays Pins in a customized way, when a Pinner clicks on a hashtag, those Pins are displayed chronologically. That means that newer Pins with that hashtag will show up towards the top of the feed. With that in mind, it’s a good idea to use hashtags to get extra exposure for your brand-spanking new Pins.
What is an ideal rich pin and what would that look like?
Pinterest offers four different types of Rich Pins – Product Pins, Recipe Pins, Article Pins, and App Pins. Regardless of which type you choose, the ideal Rich Pin will look similar to an ideal organic Pin. Within the image, you will want to have high-quality, inspirational images with contextual text overlay, if it fits. One of the big benefits of Rich Pins over organic Pins is the extra information they provide. When adding the Rich Pin code to your site, make sure you’re filling in as much information as you can to make the Pin as valuable as possible to the Pinner!
So to recap…. Get Tailwind so you can have rich pins, a killer Instagram feed, and ultimately, more traffic coming to your website! There are basically no downsides! We’re going into peak wedding season and this affiliate code is only available for the month of June…. Honestly, why would you wait?!
Thank you so much to Melissa and the Tailwind team for being fellow badasses!
